February was an exciting month for us. On February 9th we held an event called Dentistry from the Heart. This Valentine’s Day gift to our community was the first year for what will become an annual event. Our Doctors, entire staff, and volunteers provided free dental cleanings, fillings, and tooth removals to anyone over the age of 18.

We had people showing up at our office as early as 3:30AM Saturday morning to receive treatment. In spite of the very cold rainy day, out of approximately 300 people that arrived, we were able to serve about 110 patients totaling $15,000.00 worth of donated dentistry!

There are so many people to thank. I hope we don’t leave anyone out. First, none of this would have been possible without the tremendous support of our existing patients. They are truly responsible for our successes, our growth, and our existence. We have been blessed!

Kingston Residence of Sylvania was very kind to donate all of the hot beverages we served all day, in fact, Amy Peters and Beth Lowrie from Kingston arrived at 7AM to help prepare and serve coffee and hot cocoa, they also donated 100 Dentistry from the Heart T-shirts for us to wear and to give away to patients, and best of all, they prepared our lunch which consisted of lasagna, salad, breadsticks, and red velvet sheet cake for dessert. YUM!!

Our dental supplies and extra equipment were donated from Henry Schein Dental Supply thanks to our dental representative, Tony Miskow and Erin Smith. Tony was so enthusiastic about our event; he actually participated by chairside assisting Dr. Barricklow and helped clean and prepared operatories for other patients.

Deputy Mike Sbrocchi donated his time and was responsible for handing out registration forms, directing patients and keeping order throughout the day. (His day began at 6AM Saturday morning!)

Dr. Ned Hein donated additional dental equipment and instruments, Jeff Gagich with Dentsply Dental donated filling materials, McCord Christian Church donated folding chairs to use, Southview High School for parking, The Sylvania Senior Center for additional parking, Jeffrey Ballmer from the City of Sylvania for creating parking along Hampstead Drive for our patients, all of our Dentistry from the Heart signs were made by Pete Diver of Professional Graffiti Ltd.

Special thanks go to WTOL TV11 and Dave Carlson for being here all Saturday morning doing their AM program, WTVG TV13, FOX NEWS, and WNWO TV24. Other media included: Sharon Lange at the Sylvania Advantage, Mark Griffin at the Sylvania Herald, and Geri Young at the Toledo Blade. All helped to promote our event.

Special thanks go to Wells Fargo Financial for donating tablets, pens, and other cool goodies and to Larry Stoeckley, our Webmaster, for all his graphic help and technical skills!

Our hope is as the word continues to spread, that there will be more dental professionals who want to get involved with us so we can help more people in need. We look forward to next year!
