Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening procedures are done for both restorative dentistry and to improve the esthetics of the gum line. The procedure adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored.
Crown lengthening is also used to improve a “gummy” smile, one in which the teeth appear too short. The teeth may actually be the proper length, but excess gum tissue may be covering them. With this procedure, excess gum and bone tissue are reshaped to expose more of your natural teeth, giving you a more beautiful smile!
When decay occurs below the gum line, we may need to remove a small amount of bone and gum tissue to correct the problem. Crown lengthening can be an important step in restoring broken or severely decaying teeth.
